Interventional Cardiologist

Dr Wil Harrison is New Zealand’s first Māori cardiologist, proudly hailing from the East Coast. He studied medicine at the University of Auckland, where he also completed a Master’s degree in cardiac pathology. After graduating, he began his clinical career at Tauranga Hospital before completing his cardiology training in Auckland. Dr Harrison went on to undertake post-graduate fellowships in interventional cardiology—first at Auckland City Hospital, then at the renowned William Beaumont Hospital in Michigan, USA. He returned to Aotearoa in 2011 and now serves as an interventional cardiologist at Middlemore Hospital.

Areas of Interest

Wil specialises in trans-radial and complex coronary interventions, acute coronary syndromes, and has a strong background in general cardiology. He also has particular interest in Maori and indigenous cardiac health, and has worked with several Maori health organizations nationwide.
